4G modem management software: what operators should know

Running a few 4G modems by hand is manageable. Running a rack of them is not. Every modem has its own port, credentials, signal and network state, and each one needs restarts and checks from time to time. 4G modem management software puts that work in one control panel, so a small team can run a large setup.

Xameleon is building this software for operators with modem setups of their own. It is self-hosted, which means it runs on your servers and you stay in control. It is still in development, with early access on request. If you also need modems, see our 4G modems and hardware. If you would rather not operate modems at all, look at our managed proxy services.

What does modem farm software do?

A modem farm is a group of 4G modems, each serving a mobile proxy port. Modem farm software sits above the hardware and answers three everyday questions: what is each modem doing, what should it do next, and who is using it. The platform we are building covers three areas. The control panel is the one place that shows modems, ports and credentials. Automation tools take over repetitive jobs such as IP rotation, restarts and scheduled upkeep. Monitoring adds real-time metrics and a health check for each modem.

Mobile proxy management panel: ports, credentials and control

A mobile proxy management panel replaces spreadsheets and homemade scripts. It keeps modems, ports and credentials in one place, so you can see which modem serves which port and what state each unit is in. Because the software is self-hosted, that data stays on infrastructure you own. Keep credentials private and review who has access; our guide to responsible proxy use covers the basics.

To see how a port looks from the client side, point a browser or tool at it and open the IP checker in our free proxy tools. The latency test then shows the round-trip time to our API over that same connection. The guide to rotating proxies automatically explains how rotation and sticky sessions work for the people who use your ports.

4G modem automation: rotation, restarts and routine upkeep

Modems need attention. A signal weakens, a unit stalls, a rotation job runs late. Done by hand, that means someone watching a dashboard all day. Automation moves the routine work into scheduled jobs, so IP rotation, restarts and maintenance run on their own, and monitoring points to the modem that needs a look. You get fewer surprises, and the people who use your ports get steadier performance.

How to get early access to the software

Early access to our 4G modem management software starts with a short conversation. Being a Xameleon customer is not required: the software is for modem and infrastructure operators. You tell us how many modems you run and which networks you use. We agree on scope: features, timeline and support. First you run a limited pilot on servers you control; then you extend the software to the rest of your modems with our support. Supported hardware is confirmed during early access, so name the modems you plan to connect when you get in touch.

Operators who would rather supply capacity than run their own proxy service can read about the proxy partner program, or browse all mobile proxy solutions.
